What a fun spot with a great happy hour! We were promptly seated by a great hostess, the waitress told us about happy hour pizza half off, wine and beer! I had the Greek salad with steak and it was delicious! My husband had the chicken sharma and liked it as well! Just a buzz of happy diners.
Atmosphere is always welcoming and great service. Attentive but not push is a delicate dance and it was spot on. Happy hour starts at 2pm and a nice glass of wine and half price pizza makes this a solid regular in the after work rotation.
Food: 5* Atmosphere: 5* Value: 5* Service: 5* Would I go back / Recommend?: 5* (Definitely) Total check/person: $47 09/28/2024 Eatery A It had been a few years since we have been at Eatery A, mostly due to being new in the area and exploring new venues rather than repeating at a known location. Once again, we were extremely pleased with this stop as in the end, I gave it one of the few full 5* ratings that I have ever given. This place truly has it all - unique and tasty food, a great atmosphere, friendly service and value that is above average for the downtown! If you have the treat of being served by Vee - tell her 'Hi' from The Food and Drink Guy, as she is a gem! Tonight, we celebrated my wife's Birthday - exploring the menu beyond the pizza's we had on previous visits to the other Mediterranean delights as recommended by our server, Vee. Tonight we truly shared everything - starting with the Two for Delicacies: Bacon Wrapped Dates & Meatballs (see pictures). We followed that up with a Three for $35 Skewer: Swordfish, Chicken Shawarma & Sirloin Tip (see picture). All of them were delicious and highly recommended, but our favorite was the Bacon Wrapped Dates! Lastly, if you follow my posts, you know how hard it is for me to leave a restaurant without having some type of sweets. Tonight was no different, although it was free for my wife's Birthday. We opted for the Salted Caramel Budino (see picture) and while we have had it before - we truly relished every spoonful. It was sweet, rich and awesome - especially given the smaller portion size that didn't leave us feeling too guilty! You will love a stop here for your next meal out...and if you want to sample a few things at a bargain price, they have one of the best true 1/2 price Happy Hours in the area!
I was in Des Moines for the first time and decided to try Eatery A. We ordered the calamari and halloumi saganami as an appetizer and enjoyed both. I got the lamb slider as my entree and it was really good with a unique taste because of the toppings and aioli. Our waitress was personable and sweet! We ended with the dark chocolate mousse, which was delicious. The environment was nice, with options to sit inside or out. Overall, it was a great experience and I would love to return to try other items on the menu!
I've been to Eatery A a few times back when I lived in Des Moines, but after visiting this weekend I knew I had to write a review. I enjoyed a nice dinner outside on the patio. The construction on Ingersoll doesn't make for the greatest view, but the atmosphere of the patio is still great. Our waitress was very attentive and took good care of us. I had the lamb sliders for the first time and they were to die for. Perfect amount of garnish and aioli, and well-priced!
TL;DR: Great pizza, pasta portion is large, ambience could be better, & drinks could be stronger The #10 pizza was amazing. I would come back just to get that again. The cavatelli pasta was on the sweeter side, but still delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were great, but the Brussels sprouts were a small size. The Negroni cocktail could have been stronger - very average. The ambience/interior was a little confusing, but overall a great place to bring your family and share some bites!
Eatry A has great happy hour specials on their pizza. I have been down there many times for that. We went just past the dinner rush time on a sat. We were able to get seated right away. We ordered a pizza and the burshetta. I had never had the burshetta before it was great. The pizza was good. It's not the best I had had there. It was a little "toastier" on the edges that I prefer, but it was still good.
This is a staple of Des Moines! It's a great atmosphere. Ate here on a Friday night to celebrate birthdays. Be sure to get a reservation, because it's busy on a Friday night. Food is delicious. Note, there is not a children's menu, but can order plain spaghetti marinara, etc. I've also been for their great happy hour! I love their unique pizzas! The bacon covered dates are amazing as well. I highly recommend!
The best happy hour in town! Always love coming for the delicious wood-fired pizza. The staff are always super nice. The patio is a must in the warmer months.
I've come to Eatery A many times because they simply have the best happy hour in Des Moines! We made reservations ahead of time for 5:15 and were seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and although we didn't see her too much, it wasn't necessary! The place was packed and so that's more than understandable. We ordered 3 pizzas and all were piping hot when they came out and delicious. We love the pizzas here and when you can't decide which ones to order, you order 3 and plan for leftovers. We also each had a glass of wine which is part of their happy hour specials. We sat in the main dining area and it was very crowded and loud which isn't ideal but that's okay! Parking was rough, we had to park a couple blocks away on the street but no big deal. We'll of course be back many many times.
